Xargon is one of Epic MegaGames’ most inventive DOS platformers — a game that combines lush fantasy environments with tight side-scrolling action and a surprising amount of exploration depth. Released as shareware in 1993, it has since been released as complete freeware by Epic.
About Xargon

Developed by Epic MegaGames and released in 1993, Xargon puts you in control of Malcome, a spelunker who discovers an ancient underground world after inhaling mysterious fumes. The shareware episode “Beyond Reality” is free; the full game spans three episodes that Epic has released as freeware.
Gameplay
Xargon is a fluid, well-animated side-scrolling platformer with strong exploration elements. Malcome can collect gems to purchase upgrades between levels, find hidden power-ups, and discover secret passages that reveal entire hidden areas. The enemy variety is impressive — each environment introduces new creatures with distinct movement patterns.
The MIDI soundtrack is genuinely atmospheric, giving the underground world an eerie, mysterious quality that lingers long after you stop playing.
Why It’s Worth Playing
Xargon is frequently overlooked in discussions of great DOS platformers, which is a shame — it is one of Epic MegaGames’ finest efforts. The fluid animation, quality MIDI music, and well-designed levels make it stand out even today. With the full three-episode game now free, there is every reason to give it the attention it deserves.
