About Lemmings
Lemmings was developed by DMA Design (later Rockstar North) and published by Psygnosis in 1991. The game features 120 levels across four difficulty tiers: Fun, Tricky, Taxing, and Mayhem. Each level requires guiding a certain percentage of lemmings from the entry point to the exit, using a limited supply of skills to overcome obstacles. The DOS version is among the most complete and accessible versions of the game.
Gameplay
Lemmings are mindless — they walk forward, fall off ledges, and die in various creative ways unless you intervene. You assign skills to individual lemmings: Blocker (stops others from passing), Builder (lays a diagonal bridge), Digger (tunnels straight down), Basher (digs horizontally), Miner (digs diagonally down), Climber (ascends vertical walls), Floater (survives high falls with an umbrella), and Bomber (explodes after five seconds).
Each level provides a limited supply of skills. Managing them carefully — knowing when to save a Blocker and when to sacrifice a Bomber — is the core puzzle challenge. Some levels require precise timing and quick cursor movement to assign skills to specific lemmings.
