About Duke Nukem II
Released in December 1993 by Apogee Software, Duke Nukem II picks up immediately after the original. Duke has been captured by the alien Rigelatins who want to harvest his brain to conquer Earth. Fighting his way across four episodes, Duke must escape captivity and save the world — again.
The game arrived just weeks before Doom and represents the absolute peak of EGA/VGA side-scrolling technology in DOS gaming. The graphics were stunning for their time, featuring smooth parallax scrolling, detailed environments, and fluid animation.
Gameplay
Duke Nukem II expands on the original’s formula with bigger levels, more varied enemy types, and a wider arsenal of weapons. Duke can now ride vehicles, activate switches that change the environment, and navigate multi-layered vertical stages. The difficulty curve is well-judged — episode 1 eases you in, while later episodes demand real skill.
