Beneath a Steel Sky is one of the greatest point-and-click adventure games ever made. Developed by Revolution Software with art by comic artist Dave Gibbons, this dystopian sci-fi thriller was a commercial classic in 1994 — and Revolution released it as freeware in 2003, making it freely available forever.
About Beneath a Steel Sky

Developed by Revolution Software and released in 1994, Beneath a Steel Sky is set in a dark future Australia where mega-corporations control every aspect of life in towering city-states. You play Robert Foster, raised in the wasteland outside the city, who is violently brought to Union City and must uncover a conspiracy that goes to the highest levels of power.
The art was designed by Dave Gibbons, the artist behind the Watchmen graphic novel. The game’s visual quality is extraordinary for 1994.
Gameplay
Beneath a Steel Sky uses Revolution’s Virtual Theatre engine, which gives every NPC in the game an active daily routine. Characters move around the city independently, creating a living world that reacts to your actions. The point-and-click interface is clean and intuitive. Puzzles are logical, with only a handful of notorious exceptions — this is one of the most fair adventure games of its era.
Why It’s Worth Playing
Beneath a Steel Sky is a masterpiece. The writing is sharp and darkly funny, the world is richly imagined, the art is extraordinary, and the story delivers a genuinely satisfying payoff. It stands alongside Day of the Tentacle and Gabriel Knight as the finest adventure games of its generation — and it is free.
